Sir, – I feel there is a less prosaic answer to your correspondent’s letter about the new name for the BBC when there is a united Ireland.
The simple answer is that it would just shut off its transmitters along with its headquarters and studios on Ormeau Road in Belfast and, as with any other European broadcaster, employ a local reporter to cover any serious events.
I’m sure the State and licence-payers funding RTÉ would be happy to take on the BBC journalists who would otherwise fall by the wayside. – Yours, etc,
