A chara, – I welcome the news that more High Court cases will be heard during the summer vacation period to speed up the waiting lists (News, January 3rd).
However, has any thought been given to extending the length of the court day? Starting court sittings after 10.30am and finishing up by 4pm every day seems rather anachronistic to me. Whatever happened to a normal 9am to 5pm day for the courts? It would certainly reduce the length of trials and the level of legal fees, since most counsel charge per day.
