Sir, – The question of “yer man”, raised in An Irishman’s Diary of December 14th, reminded me of an exchange in the brilliantly absurdist play, The Becauseway, by Wesley Burrowes, performed in The Peacock in 1970.
A customer receiving his first pint from the barman asks, “Was yer man in today?”
“No,” replies the barman.
“Ah, no,” says the customer. “I don’t mean him. I mean yer other man.”
