Sir, – Further to recent correspondence (Letters, November 22nd), shortly after poet Paddy Finnegan died, on July 16th, 2014, a memorial event was held for him in Dublin’s Mansion House. The title of it was “Finnegan’s Wake With an Apostrophe.” – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I find Kevin McCafferty’s letter (November 22nd) bemoaning punctilious grammar fiends who value the possessive apostrophe somewhat puzzling. If we did not have the rules that govern the correct use of the apostrophe, in the first instance, then variations cannot logically occur.
