Sir, – Recent legislation requires the users of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), commonly known as quad bikes, when using them for farm or occupational work, to undergo a specific safety training course and to wear appropriate helmets.
On construction sites there is a requirement to have a roll-over protection system for all mobile machinery. It can consist of a sturdy frame that protects the operator from being crushed if the machine rolls over. There are safety roll-over systems specifically designed for quad bikes. Some of these have foam-covered flexible segmented roll bars that protect the user from being crushed, if the quad bike rolls over on its side.
If all quad bikes had such roll bars, it might considerably reduce the number of injuries. – Yours, etc,
