Sir, – With respect to improving road safety, I suggest the installation of fixed speed cameras on housing estate roads. Some motorists, on entering housing estates, appear to be under the illusion that they have reached a speed track. They show scant regard for the safety of pedestrians, particularly young children, the disabled and the elderly. They also make it difficult for residents to enter and exit their houses safely.
Regarding the dangerous state of many local footpaths, I am in agreement with Margaret Butler (Letters, November 11th). Apart from damaged, uneven footpaths and the accumulations of wet leaves, one has to contend with speeding e-scooters and adult cyclists. These footpaths do not provide a safe space for walking, especially for the more vulnerable members of our society. – Yours, etc,
