‘Irish Maths’ and pub economics

Liquid assets

Sir, – Emer McLysaght’s illuminating column on “Irish Maths” (Forget ‘Girl Maths’, it’s ‘Irish Maths’ that really counts”, People, November 10th) has helped me understand a longtime drinking partner. At the door of the pub, he usually takes a backward step, ensuring I buy the first drink, and if an odd number of drinks are consumed, he pays for the lesser amount. A graduate of “Irish Maths”! – Yours, etc,

ENDA CULLEN,

Armagh.
