Sir, – It should be clarified in relation to the opinion piece by Michael McDowell (“Prospect of an early election is looming large in the imaginations of many in Leinster House”, Opinion & Analysis, November 8th) that Neale Richmond TD is the current Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail. Peter Burke TD, also from the Fine Gael party, and not Mr Richmond, is the Minister of State for European Affairs.
Mr McDowell likely had in mind Mr Richmond’s previous background as a party spokesperson on European affairs as a senator and also his past role as chair of the Seanad Special Select Committee on the withdrawal of the UK from the EU during the timeframe of critical Brexit negotiations. – Yours, etc,
