Sir, – He worked so hard, he put in the hours. He reaped the rewards and got excellent grades in the Leaving Cert. He has done his part, exactly as he needed to do, exactly as we asked him to do and he earned his first CAO choice.
There’s only one problem. Now that he has accepted his course in the renowned University of Limerick, he has nowhere to live. There is no accommodation available. Not a house, not an apartment, not a couch to surf on. Nothing. He and thousands like him are the future of this country. They turned up and did what was asked of them and now they are left to fend for themselves. Perhaps if we got him a caravan, he could pull up nearby and not be moved on. Realistically, that may be our only option now. Failing that, it looks like the class of 2023 will all be sharing a park bench in a local green space.
Surely our Leaving Cert students deserve better than this? – Yours, etc,
