Sir, – Having recently spent five weeks in Dublin and running most of those mornings in the mountains, I wish to commend all parties, including Coillte and others, involved in the superb and ever-improving outdoor recreational facilities at Ticknock, Glencullen and Tibradden. For the many millions of Dubliners and other Irish residents who may never have been there, this large mountainous area now really has something for everyone: moderate walks on easy terrain, long hikes including sections of both the Dublin Mountain Way and the Wicklow Way, some quite technical hill and trail running, as well as a growing network of what look to be excellent mountain-bike trails. There are also options for picnicking, zip-lining and orienteering. All of the above are only 14km from Dublin city centre, and surely encouraging participation and improving access to these wonderful natural resources can only be a good thing for the health of the nation and our society.
See you on the hills! – Yours, etc,
