Sir, – The Minister for Transport is committed to legalising the use of e-scooters.
As is evident from their design, which results in the rear light being a few centimetres above the road level, it is impossible to adequately illuminate an e-scooter travelling after dark on an unlit road.
If there is one single measure that must be included in the regulations on the use of this mode of transport, it is to limit their use after what used to be called “lighting-up time” to well-lit streets and roads.
Use after dark on unlit rural roads must be prohibited and the law enforced. – Yours, etc,
