Sir, – A number years ago there was sketch on the Savage Eye comedy show about a school where the end of year exam consisted of one question: are you happy?
In our current education climate, dictated by many pressures culminating in the State exams, that question provokes a serious reminder of what ultimately matters for all students as they await Leaving Cert results in the coming weeks. The Class of 2023 should remember that whatever results are presented to them later in the month, “happiness” ought to remain a primary consideration of theirs. This can reveal itself not only through attaining what they had hoped for, but also in the more unexpected pathways which present themselves. – Yours, etc,
