Sir, – Frank McNally’s discovery of the RUC cafe in Paris (An Irishman’s Diary, July 29th) reminded me of driving through Italy years ago and seeing a road sign for Gardaland. I thought it might be an exclusive retreat for members of An Garda Síochána. It’s not. It’s an amusement park near Verona. I wonder, though, do gardaí get reduced rates there?
