Sir, – Greenways provide a wonderful opportunity for all and sundry to get out for a safe walk.
However, with the popularity of e-bikes and e-scooters, it has become unsafe for elderly people to stroll, or to let toddlers off to run free. They are almost completely silent and capable of up to 25 m/ph. It seems the rule for walkers is to get out of the way. These greenways also seem to be the go-to place for speed merchants on racing bikes.
I wonder is it the case of the tighter my Lycra, the faster I can go, and the more you should keep out of my way? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I agree with Liz Doyle on the subject of e-scooters and bicycles on footpaths (Letters, June 21st). They are a nightmare!
I’ve lost count of the number of near-misses I’ve had on footpaths.
Apparently, it’s not illegal to cycle on a footpath. Perhaps it’s time it was made illegal, accompanied by a hefty fine and confiscation of the “vehicle”. – Yours, etc,
