Sir, – An omission from the article on the turf war between Dublin City Council and our budding muralists is the one set of people that will have to put up with the ever-increasing visual noise, ie the general public (“Public art: Striking the balance between freedom of expression and avoiding giving offence”, Culture, June 17th).
A newspaper can be closed, a smartphone turned off and a conversation ended, but a 20ft mural on your neighbour’s end wall can not be so dealt with. Can we not be let live in peace once the day’s work has ended? Where will it end? Will a muralist of a different opinion demand a right of reply on an opposing gable end? Please, give our eyes and our heads peace. – Yours, etc,
