Park that thought

Summer gigs

Sir, – I was irked by your review of Pulp at St Anne’s Park (“Pulp in Dublin review”, Music, June 10th). The comments about St Anne’s Park as being a “low-ambience space on the northside of Dublin” and an “anonymous park” just rankled that little bit.

In the last couple of weeks, this anonymous park also played host to Soft Cell, The Lumineers, The 1975, Lionel Richie, and a large number of supporting bands including The Human League, Heaven 17 and OMD (brilliant). These concerts were attended by thousands of people from all over the country and anyone I asked had nothing but praise for the ambience and acoustics at St Anne’s Park. Perhaps your reviewer drew the short straw and had to cross the Liffey to attend the concert? I do hope he gets the opportunity to sample the ambience at Marlay Park and, of course, I really hope he gets to enjoy The Weekend. – Yours, etc,

JENNY MAGUIRE,

Dublin 5.
