Sir, – Pat Leahy analyses the continuing decline in the fortunes of Fine Gael and its leadership and highlights some of the reasons for that decline (“Bad news likely to further fuel murmuring about Varadkar”, Analysis, June 15th). You really have to wonder what the party stands for anymore, given the many challenges that the State faces – young people in reasonable jobs unable to move out of the family home, either to buy or rent, a struggling health service, and concerns about policing, justice and defence.
People who I talk to don’t mention tax cuts – they want efficient public services, something Fine Gael has failed to deliver over the past decade. A change of leadership alone won’t save Fine Gale at the next election: a change of policy, direction and delivery might. – Yours, etc,
