Sir, – The failure to build the A5 is not only a nightmare for motorists but a continuing tragedy for the people of Donegal (Keith Duggan, “Why is a stretch of road linking Dublin to Donegal the ‘most dangerous imaginable’?”, News, May 20th) .
Leo Varadkar explained, in a speech in Derry in October 2017, that the road was “a strategic priority for governments both north and south”.
He emphasised his “cast-iron” commitment to the road and “links between Dublin and Derry-Londonderry and Donegal”.
He added: “I want to see the project go ahead as quickly as possible”.
