Sir, – Your editorial re motor insurance makes for interesting reading (“Still a road to travel”, May 1st.)
I have been an insured driver for about 60 years with no claims or penalty points.
My premiums were always approximately €550, comprehensive cover. However, there has been a steady increase in recent years and last year I paid €650, having to change insurer. The company I was with quoted approximately €900 and I have received quotes ranging from €770 to over €1,000!
My annual mileage is very low and my car is valued at approximately €5,000.

It is depressing to note that increases have occurred in what appears to be an incremental basis matching my age, nearly 80. Have other senior citizens noticed this trend and have they any solution to what appears to be an ageist approach? – Yours, etc,
