Sir, – Commissioner Drew Harris has degraded our police force, An Garda Síochána, by describing it as a “gang” (“Harris defends Garda after Hutch acquittal”, News, April 25th). The taunt that “my gang is bigger than your gang” is part of the lexicon of a children’s playground or the RTÉ drama series Kin.
The holder of the office of commissioner should be dignified in his utterances and not be provoked into using inappropriate language. To use his own terminology, he should be bigger than that. – Yours, etc,
