Sir, – There have been many complaints about the delays in obtaining an appointment for the obligatory car test. My test was due last November. I applied in early October. I was given a date in the current month. I was pleased that my car passed. But the new certificate will expire next November in line with the last expiry date. An annual test for cars over 10 years old might be reasonable but two tests in a calendar year makes no sense. The National Car Testing Service is profiting from a problem of their own making. It should amend their rules to make a certificate valid from the date of passing the test. Such a change would reduce the pressure on its staff and lead to a proper service. – Yours, etc,
