Sir, – It is with sadness that I read about the imminent closure of Northside Shopping Centre swimming pool (News, March 18th).
I visit it weekly for children’s after-school swimming lessons. The classes are filled with beginner through to advanced learners.
I visited the pool as recently as last Thursday (March 16th) and the vibrancy of the staff, trainers and the learners was palpable. Each individual seems totally committed to their session. The children need and enjoy these lessons. There was nothing to suggest this closure on our last visit.
To read about it for the first time in your newspaper on Saturday was a shock and it has deadened all that activity and well-being.

I hope that Dublin City Council will ensure that the swimming progress of these children will not be interrupted and will offer alternative resources. – Yours, etc,
