Sir, – Further to Frank McNally’s Irishman’s Diary (“Brew-ha-ha – Frank McNally on loopers, lexicography, and fermented hay”, February 14th), at one time Guinness concurrently employed staff by the name of Porter, Stout, and Beere with an Austin and a Morris looking after the car fleet.
Only the surname Looper was missing.
That did not mean of course that there weren’t a fair number of them about the place. – Yours, etc,
