Sir, – “Ireland needs to be ‘fair, firm and hard’ on migration, says Varadkar” (News, February 9th).

Fair, firm and hard? I think fair, firm and fast would make more sense as firm and hard are synonyms, but it’s not a hard-and-fast rule. – Yours, etc,
