Sir, – The continued absence of any catering trolley services on most intercity trains for the last three years is a sad reflection on Iarnród Éireann customer service.
Now it seems that the company is considering the use of “vending machines” as an alternative (News, February 8th). While it might be better than nothing, it’s still a very basic solution which passengers and tourists won’t be too impressed by if it ever comes to pass!
Your report also refers to a resumption of catering services on some trains on the Enterprise service between Dublin and Belfast since last November, “including full dining services”.
This makes the whole fiasco even more baffling! – Yours, etc,
