Sir, – Why would the Irish Council for Civil Liberties oppose body cameras that will protect gardaí and the public alike (“Varadkar will expedite Bill to allow gardaí wear body cameras”, News, December 31st)?
The introduction of legislation under the Garda Síochána (Recording Devices) Bill will give added protection to our frontline gardaí in an increasingly violent society.
We have freedoms that we have long taken for granted but we must protect those whose job it is to protect those very freedoms. – Yours, etc,
