Sir, – Like many with bad eyesight, I rely heavily on the spoken online version of The Irish Times. However, the female voice generated by computer, while often hilarious, is irritating when it comes to anything distinctly Irish. This includes many Irish place-names or institutions.
This reached a peak when I read your Irish column Tuarascáil last Monday (December 12th). The resultant narration can only be described as gobbledygook. – Yours, etc,
