Sir, – TV football commentaries are an endless source of revelation, but the RTÉ coverage of Japan’s World Cup match against Croatia surely set a new standard. At one point, referring to Japan’s low possession statistics, the commentator said: “You don’t need the ball to win the game. You can win without it.”
