Sir, – Niall Murphy’s take (Letters, November 12th) on the recent round of redundancies in the tech sector is that “it is time for the Government, and in particular Fine Gael, to cop on: these companies aren’t your friends, they just hang around with you for your tax rate”.
I am fairly sure that “the Government, and in particular Fine Gael,” will be perfectly happy to take credit for the billions of euro in tax receipts and the hundreds of thousands of well-paid jobs associated with our extraordinarily successful industrial policy.
Mr Murphy does not share with us his considered insights as to how the jobs and tax receipts might be replaced should the Government follows his advice. – Yours, etc,
