Sir, – It saddens me to hear that a beautiful, natural nativity scene at the Mansion House in Dublin is to be replaced by a commercialised Santa sleigh and Santa post box.
Is the Lord Mayor Caroline Conroy thereby implying that the Santa story is more important than the nativity story and that Santa is our reason for celebrating Christmas rather than the birth of Jesus?
That may be the case for some people, but it certainly can’t be deemed “more inclusive”, as the Lord Mayor would have us believe.
On a truly all-inclusive and purely symbolic level, the display which shows Christmas as being all about family is to be replaced with a display which shows Christmas as being all about presents. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The Lord Mayor of Dublin says the absence of the living crib at the Mansion House this year will be more “inclusive”.
Surely we can be more inclusive and continue to respect tradition, even if that tradition includes religion, and the true meaning of Christmas? – Yours, etc,
