Sir, – I welcome the proposed changes to the governance and operation of An Bord Pleanála as set out in the Cabinet approved overhaul published by Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien recently (“An Bord Pleanála decision bodies to be overhauled in bid to restore public confidence”, News, October 4th). What concerns me, however, is whether such changes will end up prolonging the process for many important development proposals.
One can only hope that the additional 30 staff which An Bord Pleanála is to recruit next year will serve not only to mitigate such an eventuality but also to help ensure that delays in reaching conclusions on key infrastructural, housing and other projects are minimised – or even eliminated. – Yours, etc,
