A chara, – Patrick Costello TD (Letters, September 15th) may be glad to hear that the plight of Western Sahara, analogous – as he writes – to that of the Palestinians, is by no means forgotten in Algeria (where there are huge refugee camps), in France or in Spain. Moreover, the country is recognised by 41 UN member states.

The Spanish PM, Pedro Sánchez, made a rare misstep a few weeks ago when, in order to cosy up to Morocco, he reversed Spanish policy on Western Sahara; this has had the predictable consequence of damaging Spanish relations with Algeria (from whom Spain derives – for now – a lot of its natural gas). – Is mise,
