Sir, – In your reports on the summer torrents (News, August 17th), you reported the extent of the deluge at 40ml. So eight spoonfuls of rain fell on the unfortunate recipients of the cloudburst, in your estimate! Millilitres are a measure of small volumes. Rainfall is measured in depth fallen on a standardised area.
What you meant was 40mm. – Yours, etc,
