Sir, – If any young person wishes to know about the partition of India, there is no easier or better way than to read Salman Rushdie’s novel Midnight’s Children.
A universal story based on the division of India along religious lines, it is expressed as a fantastic fairy tale, full of comedy and detailed observation of human ways. He is able to acutely observe human life with a quirky sense of fun, but above all with a deep and still timely concern for those families forced to flee for their lives.
