A chara, – Having criss-crossed the country by road in recent days, I was struck by the number of near-accidents I witnessed as impatient motorists tried to overtake tractors and farm machinery on narrow roads and dangerous bends. This is a very busy time of the year for farmers and farm machinery. They are making short but important journeys on country roads to nearby fields. I would urge motorists to be more patient if they find themselves “stuck” behind a farm vehicle. Only overtake if it is safe to do so. Farmers can play their part too by pulling over onto the hard shoulder, where feasible, to let other traffic pass. Trying to save a minute by dangerous overtaking is not worth a life. – Is mise,
