Sir, – Marie Humphries is quite right to highlight the number of lifts that are out of order on the Dart (Letters, July 11th).
I am well into my retirement years but one of my joys is my new electric bike and being able to take it on the Dart.
Easier said than done.
For several stations, it is impossible to do so. Some of the wheelchair lifts are out of order, including my local station at Shankill.
An Irish businessman in Singapore: ‘You’ll get a year in jail if you are in a drunken brawl, so people don’t step out of line’

Paul Mescal’s response to meeting King Charles was a masterclass in diplomacy
Protestants in Ireland: ‘We’ve gone after the young generations. We’ve listened and changed how we do things’
Also the lifts are of varying sizes and some do not fit my bike.
At Booterstown, the northbound lift takes my bike but not the southbound lift!
Nevertheless being able to take my bike to destinations like Howth or Malahide and then cycle part of the way home continues to be a special pleasure.
Please, Dart management, do not forbid bikes on the Dart, especially at offpeak times. – Yours, etc,
DAVID McCABE,
Shankill,
