Sir, – I agree with Finn McRedmond about the pointlessness of mandating calorie counts on menus (Opinion & Analysis, May 26th).
What would be more helpful to diners would be to see the carbon emissions count on each item. A count should show how much the food item has contributed to global warming in its growing, farming, transportation, and distribution. Choices can be made for the good of everyone. I know only of one restaurant in Dublin, Brewdog, that uses this approach. There may be others who include this information, but carbon counts on menus should be a legal requirement for all restaurants, delis, and pubs. – Yours, etc,
