The Zambian government said today it will deport to Britain suspected militant Haroon Rashid Aswad, linked to the July 7th London bombings.

Aswad was arrested in Zambia on July 20th.

President Levy Mwanawasa said that following discussions with both Britain and the US, it was decided to return him to Britain.

British anti-terrorist officers arrived in Lusaka at the weekend and have already questioned Aswad.

Zambian officials said he was being questioned about 20 phone calls he allegedly made to some of the suspected July 7th suicide bombers.

The CIA had also been seeking to interview Aswad over an alleged attempt to set up a training camp for militants in Oregon in 1999.
