A garda spokesman said they knew the identities of the three and were following a definite line of inquiry.

They were travelling in a Nissan Micra car on the M1 Motorway when they crashed into the Seatown roundabout at 11.25 p.m. Two ambulances and two fire engines attended the scene.

It is understood that the occupants of the crashed car had appeared at Drogheda court yesterday in connection with a robbery and had stolen the Micra to get back to Dublin.
