Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney to play US festival

Six of the world's biggest rock and roll bands will share the stage for the first time at a new festival from the organisers of Coachella, it has been confirmed.

The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan will kick off the first night, Paul McCartney and Neil Young + Promise of Real will serve up a second night of classic rock, with Roger Waters and The Who rounding off the weekend as the official line-up for Desert Trip is released.

The headliners, all inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will play full sets starting at sunset, without support acts, across the three nights from October 7th-9th at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

Fans who want to get up close to the rock legends will need deep pockets as standing tickets in the pit area in front of the stage will set you back $1,599 (€1,390). Three-day passes cost from $399 (€347), while, unlike Coachella, single-day passes will be available for $199 (€173).

Rumours of the blockbuster festival leaked last month and all the acts except Neil Young teased their involvement on May 1st, releasing 30-second clips of some of their most famous songs on social media with the single word “October”.

Desert Trip has been organised by Goldenvoice and AEG Live, the groups behind Coachella, and is held at the same venue as the music festival which saw LCD Soundsystem, Guns 'N' Roses and Calvin Harris headline this year.
