‘Making A Murderer’ convict files new appeal

Steven Avery’s case is the subject of a 10-part documentary series on Netflix

The convicted killer whose case was featured in the Netflix series Making A Murderer has filed a new appeal seeking his release.

Steven Avery (53) claims authorities used an improper search warrant during the investigation and said that any evidence found as a result "is clearly 'fruit of the poisonous tree'".

Avery was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of photographer Teresa Halbach in Wisconsin a decade ago.

He had been wrongfully convicted years earlier in a rape case and served 18 years in prison before he was cleared by DNA evidence.
