Netanyahu demands action against Iran over missile tests

‘Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth’ reportedly written on side of ballistic missiles

Prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu has called on world powers that signed the nuclear deal with Iran to punish Tehran for its recent missile tests.

“It cannot be that Iran will not be punished for this,” Mr Netanyahu told ministers at the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday.

“I think that this is important in and of itself, but it is also important as a test of the major powers’ determination to enforce the nuclear agreement with Iran and, of course, we expect their answers.”

Iran says it fired two long- range ballistic missiles on Wednesday. Similar tests were carried out on Tuesday, less than two months after the nuclear deal was implemented.

The Iranians wrote "Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth" in Hebrew on the side of missiles.

“The reason we designed our missiles with a range of 2,000km is to be able to hit our enemy the Zionist regime from a safe distance,” Brig Gen Amir Ali Hajizadeh said.
