Death of Irish woman in Berlin confirmed by German police

German police have confirmed the death of an Irish woman in Berlin.

It is understood the woman received medical attention in a club called the Suicide Club in the Friedrichshain district in the early hours of Monday morning after club operators called paramedics.

They revived the woman and brought her to a Berlin clinic where she died on Wednesday.

Police said a postmortem had been carried out but they were as yet unaware of the results. The woman was “close to 30”, a police spokesman said.

The BZ tabloid, citing an unnamed police source, said the woman was 25.

The Suicide Club, in the eastern city centre, acknowledged the death of the woman on its Instagram account.

“On account of unforeseen and tragic circumstances of the weekend, and for reasons of respect, the Suicide Club will remain closed all weekend,” it said.

The woman’s parents have been informed and are receiving consular assistance from the Irish Embassy in Berlin.

Berlin clubs have begun to open again after months of lockdown.
