Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said that the late RTÉ broadcaster Brian Farrell was a "political institution" who had "an extraordinary way of dealing with politicians".
Responding in Galway this morning (mon) to Mr Farrell’s death, Mr Kenny said that he was a “lovely man” and he expressed his sympathies to his family.
“Brian Farrell was the one who chaired the meetings between [former taoisigh] the late Garrett FitzGerald and the late Charles Haughey, he was the one who was an authoritative voice on analysis of politics in Ireland,” Mr Kenny said.
“He was the one who gave fairness to everybody in the sense of letting them make their contribution, and he always asked the hard questions,”he said.
“Brian Farrell in my view was one of the outstanding political commentators, analysts and contributors of his generation, “he said.
“His imprint is on the nature of politics in our country for many years, and his chairing of meetings certainly gave the political process the little signs of nervousness,” he said.
“Face down Brian Farrell and you were facing the ultimate political commentator, analyst, investigator,” Mr Kenny said.
“We shall miss him,” he said, and he wished to extend his condolences to Mr Farrell’s family on behalf of the Irish people.
