HARARE - Zimbabwean workers turned up for duty as usual yesterday despite calls by trade unions for a national stoppage in support of striking nurses and doctors.

The government deployed police and secret agents in major centres in a measure aimed at protecting workers from being intimidated by union leaders to join the strike, the acting Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Mr Nathan shamuyarira said.
