Women's groups from Northern Ireland converged on Stormont yesterday to ask politicians to take more notice of the issues which matter to them. The Northern Secretary, Dr Mo Mowlam, accepted the first copy of a document proposing the formation of a consultative forum, which would lobby the Assembly and Westminster.

Dr Mowlam said: "Northern Ireland has hundreds of women's groups. I think they can do better both in terms of having a voice and funding, if they work together. Women have played an important role in getting peace and are ready to play a full role in shaping the new Northern Ireland."
