A man on trial for the alleged rape of a young woman in his Co Sligo house ran and locked himself into his kitchen when confronted by the woman's father.

The woman's father said on day four of the trial at the Central Criminal Court that he found his daughter's panties in a bedroom in the accused's house, after she had alleged he raped her.

He said the panties had a tear in them and he asked the accused: "Did she do that herself?" He said it was then the accused, a Slovakian national, ran back into his house and locked himself in the kitchen.

The man also agreed with defence counsel, Martin Giblin SC (with Francis Comerford), that the accused denied he had raped the woman, saying continuously: "I have not done anything. I have not done anything."

His wife earlier said she got into the accused's house after banging on a back door in the early hours of the morning of the alleged rape and she aroused him from sleep by slapping his face.

The accused (36) has pleaded not guilty to raping and sexually assaulting the then 20-year-old woman in a Sligo town on August 14th, 2006. The woman's mother said she decided they should drive to the accused's house.

The woman's mother got the back door of the accused's house open after banging on it. She said she was angry and her son was banging at a window to attract attention from someone inside.

The accused was asleep and she aroused him by slapping him across the face. She asked him, "What did you do to my daughter?" because his own daughter was nearby and she didn't want to talk about a rape. She was "shouting and roaring" at this time but couldn't say if the accused's daughter was awake.

She agreed her son kicked the accused while he was on the ground, and she continued screaming "what have you done?" while he continued denying any wrongdoing. The trial continues.
