A woman is critically ill after being rescued from the Suir in Waterford by emergency services.
Waterford gardaí learned at 10.30 a.m. yesterday that a woman was in the water near the William Vincent Wallace Plaza on the city's quays.
The emergency services were quickly on the scene and, with the assistance of local boat-owner Mr Liam Frampton, managed to pull her on board a boat using a grappling hook.
The woman, in her thirties and living locally, was unconscious when brought ashore but aid was administered at the scene by the emergency services with the assistance of two English doctors who were on holiday in the area.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Tramore, Co Waterford, are awaiting confirmation of the identity of a male body taken from the sea on Monday.
The body was sighted six miles off Newtown Cove, recovered and brought to Waterford Regional Hospital for a post-mortem.
Further tests were being carried out yesterday to identify the man but it is believed that the process may take some time.
