A mother of three who scarred a former friend for life was yesterday jailed for a year by Belfast Crown Court.

A mother of three who scarred a former friend for life was yesterday jailed for a year by Belfast Crown Court.

Marguerite Elizabeth Beattie was out celebrating her 23rd birthday last May when she threw a glass into her former friend's face in a city centre bar. Sentencing Beattie, from Alliance Avenue, Ardoyne, Belfast, Judge David Smyth, who examined the victim's scarred face, said he would be "failing in my public duty if I did not impose a sentence of custody".
