A woman in her twenties is being treated in hospital today for injuries sustained in what police described as a "vicious assault" in Derry.

The woman was pushed to the ground and then kicked in the face and head outside a cinema on the Strand Road in the city at around 2:30 a.m. this morning.

A man and a woman were arrested at the scene. Police in Derry are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
